Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1992. Currently, the Department has 8 faculty members, 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 1 full-time lecturer, and one teacher. Moreover, there are two scholars for PhD degree.

The department awards a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering after the completion of the student's study (163) credit hours with a minimum success. The number of students in the department is 146 at the bachelor level: 142 students on the morning program and 4 students on the parallel program.

The department also provides a master's degree in chemical engineering with 33 credit hours in two tracks, thesis and comprehensive exam. There are 11 students at the master level in the department.

The department has been restructured in 2001/2002, and the undergraduate program is updated regularly and continuously to suit the requirements of the labor market and international standards. The Chemical Engineering Department contains basic and advanced laboratories in chemical engineering, modern equipment and a computer network connected to the Internet. The department has the following laboratories:

  • Fluid mechanics
  • Heat transfer
  • Thermodynamics
  • Chemical reaction engineering
  • Unit operation
  • Separation processes
  • Instrumental analysis
  • Control

The department of Mu'tah University is characterized by its attractive geographical location in the south-central region of Jordan. It has many manufacturing and mining industries for many raw materials such as oil shale, phosphate, cement, copper, and industrial city.

Future plans of the Chemical Engineering Department:

  • Automate existing labs by providing data measurement and processing devices.
  • Establishing more advanced laboratories for Master students' research.
